Six short years ago I was single and living with a revolving group of cool people in an old apartment in Ottawa, spending weekends with my girlfriends in Montreal, and beginning that long and painful process that is a PhD. And then somewhere in there I got married, and we got some cats and a very bad pug, moved to Edmonton, and now: the most beautiful baby in the world, Claire. This is a blog about motherhood and marriage, about leaving academia, about cooking, writing, reading, and surviving life in the suburbs.
Claire and I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. She loves sitting in a bouncy chair and I love reading cookbooks and trying out recipes, especially those in food blogs. I plan to share some of my findings here — what could be better than writing about writing about food?
Claire and I also spend a lot of time reading. I love reading novels to her and imagining all those lovely words swirling in her tiny head. I didn’t always enjoy writing about books for other people within the constraints of grad school; now I get to read the books I want and write about them in the way I want and it’s lovely.
My life with Claire and her dad is the most beautiful and the most difficult thing I’ve done. In figuring out this thing of being a family, I love the voices of other mothers and dads, partners and friends: musing, debating, advising. I hope to add to the dialogue.
Thanks for following me! Just read your post on mom shorts and it made me laugh. We’ve all had those feelings of inadequacy and I found your self deprecating tone honest and charming. Look forward to reading more!
