I was pregnant with Claire here, just barely, somewhere near Quebec. I think of this photo as me blissfully unaware — unaware that by winter I’d be living in a province I never wanted to live in. Ever. And blissfully unaware of how hard it would be sometimes to be a parent. But it’s also me unaware of bliss — the bliss of knowing this incredible little being.

Love that you contrast the essential innocence of water with the life transforming events that followed. I am also sure that Claire WILL one day get to experience the great cities of Canada, if nothing more because of your affection for them. I prefer smaller, natural spaces myself but would miss the entertainment options of the big cities. Also it is very difficult to experience the uplifting effects of townscape if you are not in a city.

Thanks for the lovely comment! I used to be totally with you in preferring natural spaces (I spent a lot of time canoeing up north in Saskatchewan when younger), but I’ve become such an urbanite in recent years. I can’t wait to show Claire Canada’s lovely cities and natural spaces someday!
